Synopsis: Meet Max, an offbeat writer caught between his past and future tenses. In the process of obsessively pursuing his creative passions, he loses sight of the present. Haunted by decisive moments from his past, his words and papers literally take on a life of their own as they fly off the typewriter carousel. Metamorphosing into birds, his words take flight in an attempt to guide him towards the truth. Reminiscent of early surrealist films and inspired by magical realism genres, this non-linear film, blurs the past and the present while colliding reality with the dream world. The narrative jumps in time and space like Max’s tortured words. His imagination draws audiences into its uniquely vivid visual landscape and leads him on a journey of self-discovery and redemption.
Process: Endless Before Me mixes live action video with stop motion animation, 3d animation and visual effects. The animation is a reflection of the characters state of mind, providing context and setting the mood. The film was shot on HD video and mixed with digital stills as well as hand drawn elements. Dream sequences are created from hand printed xerox transfers that contain over 5,000 hand printed frames.
